Laser engraving machine hazard

Laser engraving machine is type of device that would generate invisible laser light which can cause skin burns and damage the eye. Proper safety protection equipment (PPE) must be worn during the operation of the Laser engraving machine, never try to play a fool with the system (i.e. putting hand on the laser beam during operation). Permanent skin damage and eye damage can occur if proper safety awareness is ignored.

Laser output power

A laser beam from the Laser engraving machine is defined as a concentration of parallel monochromatic light. This Laser engraving machine generates invisible laser light in the high infrared range. The output power of the Laser engraving machine beam when it is in focus can be a maximum of 5 X 10 power of 9 W/m square, which can seriously cause skin and eye damage.

Precautions must be taken to make sure that the system operators who work within visual range of the laser beam output are protected from direct/indirect and reflected contact with the laser beam.

Set up good sight barriers and display warning signage before the Laser engraving machine's optical enclosure, guards or safety devices are removed.

Optical hazard

Permanent eye damage can occur if laser radiation is directly emitted into the human eye. If direct, reflected or scattered laser radiation enters the eye, the radiation can cause a decrease or loss of eye sight.

Laser safety glasses or enclosure must be worn during maintenance work is performed on the Laser engraving machine. Never look straight into a laser beam, even with safety glasses.

Skin damage

The skin has a stronger resistance to higher radiation intensity than the eye. However, if a laser beam from a low power laser directly shooting on the skin surface, the laser beam can cause a burn, which could damage the skin cells. Normally, this burn is not dangerous if the affected part of the skin is quickly removed from the laser beam. However, extended exposure to the laser beam can cause severe skin damage, but depends on the exposure period and intensity.

Take every precaution to make sure that no part of the body expose direct to the laser beam path, especially during installation, operation and maintenance of the Laser engraving machine. Wear applicable personal protective clothing to protect the skin.
